The DAR is......

·            Women age 18+ who are direct descendants of soldiers who fought for American independence, or those who provided them with supplies and support

·            Proud of its early American heritage

·            Dedicated to educating future generations

·            Supporting our active military and veterans

·            Non-partisan, yet promoting active patriotism

·            Actively involved in promoting citizenship in our schools and community with award and scholarship programs

Membership and DAR Activities

Membership.  Any woman 18 years or older – regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background – who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership.

Patriotism.  We support the men and women of the United States Military through programs such as DAR Project Patriot.

Veterans.  Members nationwide volunteer more than 55,000 hours annually to assist veterans.

Friendship.  We share our interests in historic preservation and education with almost 170,000 women in the 3,000 chapters across the United States and the world.

Genealogy.  The DAR library is one of the world’s premier genealogical research centers.

History.  DAR promotes American history education through children’s essay contests and museum programs.

Preservation.  More than 30,000 objects are conserved in the DAR Museum, one of the foremost collections of Pre-Industrial American decorative arts.

Landmarks.  Devoted DAR members preserve local landmarks and historic structures across the country.

Education.  Members participate in literacy programs for adults and tutoring programs for students preparing for the high school GED.

Scholarships.  DAR awards $150,000 in scholarships and financial aid each year to high school and college students.

Children.  DAR supports schools for underprivileged children with annual donations exceeding one million dollars.
